About Us

When Thuy and I first met, we found that we had a shared love for the art of healing. With myself being a physical therapist and Thuy being a massage therapist, we always envisioned that maybe one day we could combine our passions and start our own clinic.

In February 2018, that vision then became a reality and we opened Balance and Body Restoration Physical Therapy and Massage in Dublin, California.

One of the main reasons why we decided to go all in and open up our own clinic is because we started to notice a lot of shifts that were happening in health care.

For example, as a clinician having to work with 15 to 20 patients/day with barely any break, it reached a point where I was burnt out, and just felt unable to provide the quality of care that was needed to help my patients get better.

And Thuy was also starting to realize how many people were turning to alternative treatments such as massage therapy for pain relief because they just weren’t finding answers within the traditional medical system…

And combined, we both just saw first hand how many people were struggling with chronic pain, but at the same time, we knew that deep down, we could help.

So we decided to combine our talents to create Balance and Body Restoration, which is a blend of Massage and Physical Therapy to create the best possible environment for our patients to heal that we know how.

And to give you some more insights about our approach, and philosophy, I’d like to share with you some of our core values and principles that we follow:

Quality Over Quantity:

At our clinic you will realize that we are small, but we kept it this way for a reason. It has always been our belief that spending more time with less patients leads to better outcomes.

While this may limit the amount of people we can help, it also ensures that we can stay as focused and attentive to the current clients we have in order to give our clients the best care possible.

Treating The WHOLE Body, Not Just The “Symptoms”

In our experience, the most common mistake that people make that keeps them stuck in chronic pain is not because the person isn’t trying, or isn’t putting in the effort to get better. But rather it is because they spend too much time treating the symptoms in terms of WHERE they feel their pain, and are not able to see the real, underlying ROOT causes of their pain.

But at our clinic, we understand that everything within our body is interconnected. And in order to get better as quickly as possible, we have to be able to focus on fixing what NEEDS fixing within your body, instead of only focusing on things that may feel temporarily good at the time.

Which is why we believe in treating the “whole you” because we know that this is the best way to help you find long lasting relief, and make sure that your pain does not just keep coming back.

We are a “Hands-on” Healing Clinic

Some of the frustrations we hear from our patients who have tried physical therapy in the past is they felt like something was lacking. Maybe because all they were given were a couple of exercises to do at home, despite the fact that they were in a ton of pain and could barely move.

Or maybe they spent a significant amount of their session laying on a heating pad, or using a tens unit, which are treatments they could have easily done at home.

While I’m not trying to diminish the importance of exercise, and I understand that some people find relief with some of these modalities…

The truth is, there are certain problems that cannot be fixed with exercise alone, and for these problems, our goal is to help you find relief through a very specialized form of physical therapy known as “Manual Therapy.”

Manual therapy is quite simply, a type of physical therapy where the clinician will use their hands as tools, in order to help you:

  • Find relief from your pain as quickly as possible
  • Help you restore movement in ways that exercise alone cannot
  • Release the underlying causes of your pain (such as muscle knots, stuck joints, or chronic inflammation)

Because in working with thousands of people over the past 15 years, we understand the healing power of the human touch. And while we believe that movement, and exercise are essential, it is our belief that through “hands-on” care, we can help you heal much faster, and more effectively as well.

Slow and Steady Wins the Race!

It's easy to fall into the trap of seeking quick fixes or magic pills for immediate relief. And to be fair, for minor injuries or short-term pain, there's nothing wrong with taking a few pills or trying things for fast relief.

However, if your pain is chronic—meaning you've been struggling for months or even years—it's important to understand that problems that didn't develop overnight will not get better overnight!

But that doesn't mean you can't get better!

In our experience, taking a slow and steady approach from the beginning is crucial. By accurately assessing your whole situation and addressing the root problems in your body through slow, but meaningful progress, we have found this to be the most effective strategy for our clients.

Not only will this approach lead to long-lasting relief from your pain but it also makes sure that your pain does NOT come back, which in most cases can also lead to a complete transformation in your quality of life!

A Personalized Approach

Lastly, at our clinic we absolutely understand how important it is to take a personalized approach to care.

Because we know that every single person is different. People come in at different ages, and different stages in their life. And we realize that if 10 different people come to see us with the same exact symptoms, it’s most likely we will need 10 different treatment approaches for every single person.

And we also want to meet you at your level. Because we understand that not everyone is looking to “run a marathon” or get back to “lifting heavy weights”, and that for most of our patients, just being able to go for a walk, and do simple house chores, and live life normally is more than good enough.

Which is why we want to make sure that we customize and tailor our plans in order to suit your goals and your needs, but at the same time, we want to help push you to become as strong, and as mobile as possible so you can get back to living your best life.

“I was diagnosed with degenerative discs and stenosis in my lower back. The pain had gotten so bad I’d be in tears just trying to stand in the kitchen and cook a meal. The doctors told me they’d need to do a lumbar fusion to fuse my discs and then flip me over and then fix my stenosis…but no, no, no, I wasn’t going to let them do that.”

“I had a badly slipped disc, and I was on the verge of going onto an operating table. I couldn’t sit to play with my kids, I was in constant pain. But they have methods that actually work here. With the things they do, I could just feel ALL of the mobility starting to come back, and made me aware of places I felt pain that I didn’t even know existed”
