We Provide Natural Solutions For People Who Are Suffering With Back, Neck, And Knee Pain, And Teach You How To Do It From The Comfort Of Your Own Home.

If you are stuck at home right now suffering with aches and pains due to back, neck, knee, or sciatic pain, and you are in need of some help, then you’ve come to the right place!

Due to the current COVID-19 situation we all have to do our part to ease the burden on our front-line health-care workers and protect the vulnerable people in our communities. This means staying home, working from home, and changing the way we live our lives (at least for the time being.)

But as a result of being forced to stay inside the house, it’s no secret that people have had their daily habits and routines completely disrupted.

  • Spending more time sitting at home watching TV and Netflix
  • Unable to go to the gym, exercise and relieve stress
  • Sitting at your kitchen table instead of an ergonomic chair
  • Spending more time playing on the floor with your kids and grandkids than you had ever before

All of these disruptive changes to your daily routine can negatively affect your body.

Over the past several weeks, working with several people in our community through our Virtual Therapy program, the most common issues I’m hearing from people are:

  • Posture issues leading to increased neck and shoulder tension
  • Back stiffness and tightness in your hip muscles
  • Knee problems from getting on and off the floor spending more time with your kids than ever before

This, in addition to all of the increased stress and anxiety of having responsibilities of:

  • taking care of children, figure out e-learning, cooking meals and entertaining
  • look after elderly family members
  • while also trying to be productive for work at home to keep your job

It can all be very exhausting and overwhelming…

And if you add being in pain ON TOP of everything else, it can lead to extremely challenging, and troubling times for even the strongest, most capable people.

What makes matters even worse, you may not even have access the doctors and providers that would usually help in these situations, because the clinic is closed, OR you cannot risk going out into the public because of the need to protect yourself, or loved ones from the spread of the virus.

What You Can Do To Fix Your Aches And Pains At Home:

COVID-19 may not currently have a cure, or a vaccine, but the good news, is that we DO have solutions for back, hip, neck, and knee pain.

The big problem is, there are just SO MANY “potential” solutions out there that it is difficult to make a decision on what type of treatment you need.

There are:

  • Exercise and stretching videos on YouTube
  • “Gadgets and gizmos” seen on social media such as massage guns, posture braces, knee braces, “neck hammocks” etc…
  • Creams, ointments, gels and lotions

The problem is, anyone who is smart and health conscious should know that it is hard to know which exercises or safe, or which of these various tools and products are actually effective.

And more importantly…if you are currently in pain, there is a risk that doing the wrong exercise, or using the wrong device could make your condition significantly worse.

But the good news is, we are here to help!

Balance and Body Restoration proudly offers “Virtual Therapy” sessions so that you can receive the same expert advice and guidance to help SAFELY GUIDE YOU through a rehabilitation program…

…to help you get rid of your aches and pains, and restore your mobility, and do so from the comfort of your very own home.

Virtual Therapy, How Does That Work?

Most people, when they think about PT, might think of driving to a clinic, getting some massage, getting stretched out, or using some exercise equipment in order to recover from an injury.

But most clinics are currently shut down…or even if clinics open up in the near future, you might be a person who just does not want to risk being out in public. Whether it be to protect yourself, or loved ones who might be vulnerable to the disease.

But back, neck, hip, or knee pain doesn’t just go away with a global pandemic, and now…more than ever, that there is a dire for people to have access to expert medical guidance and advice that can help you overcome these challenges.

With Balance and Body’s virtual therapy sessions, you will get to work one-on-one with an EXPERT THERAPIST in our field, so that we can guide you step by step to relieve your pain, and improve your mobility from the comfort of your own home.

Why Can’t I Just Do Exercises I Find On The Web?

No one is saying you can’t do exercises you find on the web. I have nothing against people who put content and videos out there…

…but if you are in pain, or have an injury, and if you don’t know what you are doing, the risk of increasing your pain, or making your injury worse is very high.

And right now is NOT a good time to risk furthering your injury because most clinics are closed, and visiting your doctor may not be a good idea (especially if you are considered an “at risk” person who is older, or has underlying health conditions).

Virtual PT is NOT just about showing you a few exercises to do…

Virtual Physical Therapy is about guiding you step by step through a highly comprehensive system that will ENSURE to help you reduce your pain, increase your mobility, and help you and your body get through this ordeal…

As SAFELY as possible.

How our Virtual Therapy System works is through a 5-step process:

Step 1: Getting to Know You

The first step, before we do any form of treatment is to get to know you first. We want to know exactly what you are going through. We want to know what your biggest challenges are, and also what your goals may be.

It is important that we “meet you where you are at” and create a safe, and effective plan to help you reach the goals and outcomes you are looking for.

We understand that right now, not everyone is trying to go out there and “run a marathon.”

Most of the people who we work with just:

  • Want to be able to get out of bed, walk around the house, and be able to do house chores without pain.
  • Want to have the ability to get on the floor with your kids and grandkids without worrying about your back, or knees giving out.
  • Want to be able to care for your elderly parents, but need to be able to take care of yourself first
  • Want to use this free time wisely and improve your health, but want to do so safely without putting yourself at risk of making your injury worse

We want to be certain that we are a good fit for each other…

We also understand that our type of treatment may not be for everyone.

Bodies are complicated, and they take time and patience in order to achieve the best results, and as safely as possible.

Which means if you are someone who:

  • Doesn’t value your health and mobility
  • Are looking for a quick fix
  • Do not want to take an active part in your recovery

Then we will not be a good fit for you, and you need not apply for our visits

But if you are someone who:

  • Wants to do anything and everything you can to protect your mobility and independence
  • Understand that recovering from pain and injuries takes time and effort
  • Want to do things the “right way” and do not want to risk doing anything that can cause further pain or damage

Then I am CERTAIN we will be a great fit for you and we WILL be able to help you.

Step 2. Finding The Source Of Your Pain Through A Virtual “Movement Assessment”

Listen, if you are hurting, struggling, and need help, the last thing you need is a bunch of exercises on YouTube. I have nothing against these people and the videos that they put out there, but it is impossible to know which exercises are SAFE for you without first doing an assessment.

You don’t need exercises in the beginning…

What you DO need is a diagnosis, and a PLAN.

Through virtual therapy sessions, our expert therapists will guide you through a series of very simple assessment techniques that allow us to see how your body moves.

You see, we have a very unique approach in the way that we assess pain and injuries. We have a deep understanding that everything within our body is inter-connected. What this means that in order to properly address an injury such as back, neck, knee, or sciatic pain, we cannot just focus on the area that hurts.

We need to properly analyze your ENTIRE body.

We accomplish this by taking you through a “Virtual Movement Assessment”

In this Virtual Movement Assessment, we will take you through a series of movements and analyze:

  • Which movements in your body hurt,
  • where your body is stiff, and lacks mobility,
  • Where your body might be weak and imbalanced.

After gathering this information, this will allow us to identify the “root source” of your problem. And from there, we can then create a plan of action to address the issues that we solve.

The most common problem I hear of when people try to “self-treat” is not a lack of effort, or energy. It is a lack of effort and energy spent working on the WRONG problem. What our assessment will ensure is that we are focusing on the RIGHT problems so you don’t have to waste critical time and energy on treatment that will not work.

Step 3. Teach You Self-Pain-Relieving Techniques

You probably know that you need to move more, and be more active if you are feeling stiff, or are in pain. And while it is true, that exercise and movement is the BEST thing you can do for a stiff, ailing body, if you do the wrong exercises, or just try to “push through” the pain, you will end up making things worse.

You see, when your body is hurting, the pain signals you are receiving is similar to the check engine sign lighting up in your car. Driving your car more won’t just make the problem go away, you must take care of the problem, and fix the source of the pain first.

In step 2, we help you FIND the source of your pain, in step 3 your specialist will guide you through self-pain-relieving techniques to FIX the source of your pain.

Examples like this might include:

  • Self-massage techniques to loosen tightened, stressed muscles
  • Self-joint mobilization techniques to release stiff, cranky joints
  • Gentle mobility exercises to get your joints moving, and muscles stretched to relieve harmful stressors off your back

The emphasis here is to apply the RIGHT solution on the RIGHT area of your body, and at the RIGHT TIME in your rehabilitation journey, so you don’t have to waste any time, effort, or energy working on the “wrong” areas of your body.

Step 4: Restore your Mobility

After we have identified the source of your pain, and helped you learn self-pain-relieving techniques, you should start feeling better. But do not make the mistake of thinking that once your pain is less that you are fully fixed!

To make sure you continue to progress towards your goals, the next step is to improve your general mobility.

In order to make sure your pain doesn’t just come back, and ultimately help you achieve the results you are looking for…

…the next step is to teach you a series of mobility exercises.

These exercises are designed to help you become loose, flexible, and mobile before you start venturing into all of the activities you want to do.

In this phase of the program, your specialist will design a unique stretching and mobility program that is tailor-made to you and your body. We will meet you where you are at in terms of your comfort level and expertise with exercise to be sure we are creating a safe, but also effective environment to help you see progress.

This will include:

  • Simple stretches that you can perform with minimal equipment or without any at all
  • “Joint mobility” exercises that will specifically target stiff, achy joints and help you increase your overall range of movement
  • Self “Trigger point” release techniques to reduce tension and “knots” in your muscles and tissues

As with anything we do in our program, our emphasis is on SAFETY and EFFECTIVENESS. We will guide you through each and every stretch in fine detail, and give you access to our exercise library so you will never have to worry about “forgetting” how to do the exercise when we are not there.

Step 5: Strengthen Your Body

The last step is to help you create a simple, easy, but effective strengthening program to give you the best possible chance at not just getting rid of your pain, but helping you get back to all of the activities you want.

Building strength is ESSENTIAL to heal your body because it will:

  • Prevent pain from coming back
  • Help you feel more confident with your body and your movement
  • Increase the activity you’ll be able to do around the house and in the yard
  • Ensure that your back will be able to handle any exercise you want to do, without fear of your back going out

It’s no secret that one of the keys to a healthy body is a strong core, and good “muscle tone”.

But most YouTube exercise videos, or personal training programs out there are likely too difficult, or do not consider that you are recovering from a back injury, which makes them unsafe.

But working one-on-one with a therapist, we will guide you step by step in how to not just strengthen your body, but to make sure that it is done safely, but also so that it is done effectively so you can get results you are looking for.

We will ensure:

  • The exercises we select are appropriately challenging, but also safe for you to perform
  • That you will understand how to do the exercises with the proper “form” and technique
  • We help you make progress based upon your results, so you aren’t just doing the “same exercises” every time
  • Also provide access to step-by-step, instructional videos from our library so you don’t have to worry about “forgetting” the exercise

Frequently Asked Questions:

Physical therapy done online? Is it really that effective?”

As someone who has been a very hands-on, “manual therapist” for my entire career, you will find no bigger skeptic than me. I used to believe that everyone needs hands-on treatment for the best possible care.

But I realized there are so many people that need this type of personalized help, who may not be able to leave their home, have kids, or are too busy to be able to come into the clinic during the day.

In the virtual setting, there are several increased advantages that are more beneficial to you, in terms of getting the results that you want.

  • Teaching you simple, safe, and effective self-pain-relieving treatments, so you don’t have to rely upon anti-inflammatories or painkillers
  • Be able to get an exact picture of your home environment so we can make immediate, direct changes to your work station, or help you make simple modifications to activities you’re having trouble with
  • The convenience of not having to leave your home and still receive the same exact expert advice and movement assessment as coming into the clinic

While of course, there are things that cannot be done online that can be in-person, but the situation we are in has put us into a situation where we MUST be even MORE creative, resourceful, and problem-solving oriented to get you the results you are looking for. And the results have been just AS good, if not even MORE beneficial than coming into the clinic.

I found the virtual visits to be empowering, and I was actually surprised at how helpful it was, and how much I learned! But more importantly my back feels better than it has in years, and I’m only a few weeks into the program!” – Claire 59, LIvermore

I’m not a techy person, it seems too confusing for me to want to try.”

I understand some people, especially those who aren’t “tech savvy” might be concerned with the complexity of using technology.

But I promise you only need 3 things.

  • 1. An internet connection
  • 2. A phone, tablet, or computer that has “face-time”, “webcam” or “video capabilities”
  • 3. The ability for you to hover your finger, or mouse over a link, and be able to click on it

That’s it!

It cannot be any simpler, and we will walk you through step-by-step through your initial consult, just to make sure everything works and you are able to access our care easily.

How much does the program cost?

Each case is highly individualized, we have a variety of prices and packages that is dependent on your condition, and also the goals you are looking to achieve.

We also have a firm, Satisfaction and Happiness Guarantee. We guarantee you will be 100% satisfied

with the treatment you receive. If you decide for any reason that our Virtual Spine Rehabilitation

Program is not working for you by the end of the 3rd session, you will receive a prompt and courteous full refund.

I had a badly slipped disc, and I was on the verge of going onto an operating table. I couldn’t sit to play with my kids, I was in constant pain. But they have methods that actually work here. With the things they do, I could just feel ALL of the mobility starting to come back, and made me aware of places I felt pain that I didn’t even know existed”

I was able to watch an entire film with with my kids, and actually sit through the entire thing without having to get up, or feel like I was in chronic pain…and I can like get down on the ground with them now and actually do activities with them, and being able to pay attention to them instead of just paying attention to what's going on with my body and the pain it's causing me. It's been just a wonderful change.”

Dean, Mid 30's from Livermore

“Now after seeing Kevin at Balance and Body, I’m almost pain-free...He was very personal, and passionate, and I feel like a different person now… And just the simple things like getting in and out of my car, walking around the house and simple yard work no longer gives me problems like it used to.”

Kevin Mao

PT, DPT

Kevin, like most physical therapists, got hurt at an early age as an athlete in high school. Having gone through multiple shoulder dislocations and surgery, he had his fill of PT at a young age. Even though getting injured and having to have surgery was painful, he was curious about the fact that he actually “enjoyed going to PT”, because he was able to learn about his body in ways he was never taught! This curiosity drove him to study Kinesiology at Penn State University in 2008, and he finally graduated with his Doctorate of Physical Therapy from Boston University in 2011.

He originally wanted to work with pro athletes and travel with sports teams, but after several years of clinical practice, Kevin actually found his true calling was to help the aging population, those 45+, stay healthy, active, and free of painkillers and unnecessary surgeries. He is passionate about being able to use his advanced knowledge of biomechanics, physiology and neurophysiology, to take complicated orthopedic problems and turn them into simple, easy to understand solutions.

He is a pure hands-on manual therapist, receiving elite mentorship working at one of the most prestigious orthopedic rehabilitation clinics in San Francisco. He has worked side by side with world class surgeons from Stanford, SOAR clinic, and professional/Olympic level athletes.

He has also dedicated his entire career to developing effective, efficient and challenging rehabilitative exercise programs, that have a PURE emphasis on safety, and creating body awareness. He has consulted with the world’s most renowned bio-mechanists and strength-physiology experts, and has brought years of knowledge gained from experts around the world to bring it to the people right here in Dublin.

In his spare time, he loves nothing more than to relax at home with his loving wife, step daughter, and in-laws. He is also an avid basketball, boxing, and mixed martial arts fan, enjoys fishing, fantasy basketball and strategic card games.
