It seems like we can stress out about pretty much anything today. Stress may be temporary, and stress can be a threat to our well-being. When we let stress linger and last too long, it can turn into chronic stress. Over time, it will cause a physical response in our body, and sometimes can actually lead to illness.
Some of the types of illness caused by chronic stress stress are:
- Muscle stiffness
- Headaches, fatigue, and difficulty sleeping
- Chronic pain such as lower back pain and neck pain
- Increased chances of developing depression and anxiety
- Accelerated aging
- Accelerated progression of Alzheimer’s disease
- Gastrointestinal disorders
- High blood pressure, Obesity and Diabetes
Chronic stress is degenerative and can make people more moody, more irritable, and finding themselves snapping at their kids or overacting to a situation.
Stress is such a huge topic that we will be dedicating several blog posts about this topic to educate you how to effectively manage and reduce stress in natural, and holistic ways!
Secret Stress management technique number 1: Take Control of your Breathing!
When placed in stressful situations, your body will produce hormones that will increase your heart rate, blood pressure and cause short, shallow breathing.
To calm down this response, take 2 minutes each day and find a quiet room where you can concentrate on your body…
Take in a deep breath through your stomach, and try not to let your chest rise…
The goal is to learn how to relax, and calm your “nervous system” back down to bring yourself back down to a “steady state”.
Deep relaxing breaths will not only lower your heart rate and blood pressure, but also make sure your muscles, brain and tissues are getting plenty of oxyg
Secret Stress management technique number 2: Plan out your day!
No one is immune to stress…
But its all about how you manage your stress and how much you can prevent the unknown…
When you can expect chaos, and plan for it ahead of time, you will find yourself not only less stressed, but also feel much more accomplished when you have dealt with it.
Taking 10 minutes out of your day in the early morning to plan out how your day will run will give you much better direction and clarity, instead of feeling like you’re “juggling plates”.
Secret Stress management technique number 3: Try a stress relieving massage!
Trouble with your boss at work?
Kids driving you nuts at home?
Feel like you haven’t had a chance for any “me-time” in months?
At Balance and Body Restoration, we have specialized a “stress relieving massage” that will pin-point and target the areas of your body where people tend to “hold the most stress”…
Using deep trigger point release techniques, and “myofascial” release techniques, we can immediately release tension in your upper back, neck and shoulders to restore mobility, and increase circulation back into your head and body.
While other “life stressors” will still need to be managed, don’t ignore how your body feels!
Let us take care of your body, and we will continue to provide you with useful strategies to help reduce your stress over time!
